[LAZART STENCILS cc T/A The Stencil Company
The Stencil Company was founded in 1999 by husband and wife team Tina & Andy McDermott.
Inspired by Tina’s long association and interest in stenciling, and our inability to source locally made product.
Our business has grown literally from a hobby into a Company.
We purchased our first Laser in 2000, the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
We have subsequently purchased further lasers as our business has grown.
We traded in several locations in Cape Town, before being invited to join the small business family at the Waterfront, progressing to stalls in both sheds for a period of time.
We are now proud and delighted to be part of the new Watershed Craft & Design Centre, after both the Red & Blue sheds were amalgamated into Cape Town’s hottest new retail destination.
Come find us 7 days a week, adjacent to the aquarium open from 10.00 until 18.00hrs during the winter months. The new “Gateway” to the V&A Waterfront.
We are both self-taught graphic artists, which allows us to remain current, if not ahead of international trends in both the craft and interior sectors.
Our customer base at the shop is predominantly overseas tourists, who are inspired by our contemporary designs and our price point which is extremely competitive with international comparisons.
We move quickly to respond to both local and overseas trends, for example our “Vintage French” collection has been very well received. More recently we have created a range of Afrikaans inspired designs launched this year.
Accepting that the stencil itself, unlike the finished product, not to be particularly eye-catching, we constantly try and inspire our customers with finished artworks, craft ideas and pictures of previous projects.
We successfully promote our business using both Facebook and Pintrest.
We also exhibit at both craft and décor shows around the country such as HobbyX, & Décor-EX, as an alternative promotion tool, as well as a local retail experience.
So welcome and thank you for reading our company Bio and first ever blog.
